The Textures, Textiles, and Found Objects Collection is primarily an exploration into myself, and a key step in the discovery of my own personal style. Previously, much of my artwork had focused on pop culture, depicting many cultural icons in colored pencil or brightly colored acrylic. This collection is a self introduction to the use of different mediums, and contains the first appearance of many of my art’s signature qualities, such as the use of metal and other found objects. It also signifies a drastic change in subject matter from literal to conceptual, and a shift in mood from bright and whimsical to dark and philosophical.
Initial inspiration for this collection came upon watching a documentary about the amazing Jackson Pollock, who could convey emotion and passion through the use of paint alone, reliant on no shapes, no references, and no preconceived notions about art.
The use of metal studs was inspired by my youth, and has always been a nod to where I came from, and how I came to be an artist, while the use of Victorian style found objects reflects my fascination of a time when everything was built beautifully, and built to last.
