Jenvy Fox is an artist and silversmith from Sacramento, California. Her focus is on making jewelry and fine art for those that prefer an alternative aesthetic to the mainstream. She works primarily in sterling silver and natural gemstones, making heavy weighted pieces for those that are not faint of heart when it comes to accessorizing. She whips up heavy metal and punk rocks with passion and authenticity, hoping to bring an alternative look to a manufactured world.
Primarily self-taught, Jenvy Fox has been making art and jewelry in a variety of incarnations since childhood. Rather than have the traditional lemonade stand, Jenvy made and sold intricate handmade friendship bracelets and beaded jewelry while still in grade school. Concurrently, her love for two-dimensional arts blossomed, passing through periods of mostly colored pencil drawings then into the realm of acrylics and multimedia, until finally branching out into “small” metal arts. While developing artistically, she also attended college, receiving a Master’s Degree in Liberal Arts, with a focus on Postmodernity, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy. In recent years, Jenvy returned to making jewelry, as a silversmith, coming full circle to where her love for creating began.
In her two-dimensional work, Jenvy is influenced by a variety of Modern artists including Picasso, Dali, Kahlo, Pollock, and Mondrian and is inspired by Postmodern philosophy, contemporary technology, nature, unconventional beauty, counterculture, and music.
In her jewelry design, Jenvy is strongly influenced by her own personal tastes, which frequently go under-represented in the marketplace. With small hands and dreams of heavy metal, Jenvy found that her subversive grunge-punk aesthetic was typically reserved for jewelry in men’s sizes and styles. She uses her work to bring femininity to the grunge-punk aesthetic, while at the same time expanding traditionally men’s jewelry styles to include smaller fingers that also seek to carry heavy metal and punk rocks. Ultimately, the purpose of her work is to break gendered expectations in jewelry fashion and to express herself in a way that feels authentic, which for her has never been dainty or elegant.
